Dr. Haiqiang Yao is a Professor and Principal Investigator at the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM), where he earned his doctoral degree. He further refined his expertise through a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine. Dr. Yao’s current scientific program is situated at the innovative intersection of endocrinology and gastrointestinal physiology, with a primary focus on how the gut microbiota and its metabolites—such as bile acids and short-chain fatty acids—interact with circadian rhythms to regulate host metabolism. By investigating these pathways alongside incretin signaling and GLP-1 secretion, his work seeks to develop novel therapeutic strategies for metabolic and gastrointestinal diseases. A prolific scholar with over 60 publications in prestigious journals like The Lancet and The BMJ, Dr. Yao also bridges ancient and modern medicine by applying Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Constitution Theory to contemporary precision medicine. In addition to his research, he contributes to the global scientific community as an editor for Frontiers in Immunology and The American Journal of Chinese Medicine, as well as through his involvement in the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) studies.
