In the burgeoning field of sustainable energy, this research introduces a novel approach to accurate medium- and long-term load forecasting in large-scale power systems, a critical component for optimizing energy distribution and reducing environmental impacts. This study breaks new ground by integrating Causal Convolutional Neural Networks (Causal CNN) and Variational Autoencoders (VAE), among other advanced forecasting models, surpassing conventional methodologies in this domain. Methodologically, the power of these cutting-edge models is harnessed to assimilate and analyze a wide array of influential factors, including economic trends, demographic shifts, and natural phenomena. This approach enables a more nuanced and comprehensive understanding of power load dynamics, essential for accurate forecasting. The results demonstrate a remarkable improvement in forecasting accuracy, with a 15% increase in precision over traditional models. Additionally, the robustness of the forecasting under varying conditions showcases a significant advancement in predicting power loads more reliably. In conclusion, the findings not only contribute substantially to the field of load forecasting but also highlight the pivotal role of innovative methodologies in promoting sustainable energy practices. This work establishes a foundational framework for future research in sustainable energy systems, addressing the immediate challenges and exploring potential future avenues in large-scale power system management.

In 2022, as a result of the historically exceptional high temperatures that have been observed this summer in several parts of China, particularly in the province of Sichuan, residential demand for energy has increased. Up to 70% of Sichuan’s electricity comes from hydropower, thus creating a sensible and practical reservoir scheduling plan is essential to maximizing reservoir power generating efficiency. However, classical optimization, such as back propagation (BP) neural network, does not take into account the correlation of samples in time while generating reservoir scheduling rules. We proposed a prediction model based on LSTM neural network coupled with wavelet transformation (WT-LSTM) to address the problem. In order to extract the reservoir scheduling rules, this paper first gathers the scheduling operation data from the Xiluodu hydropower station and creates a dataset. Next, it uses the feature of the time-series prediction model with the realization of a complex nonlinear mapping function, time-series learning capability, and high prediction accuracy. The results demonstrate that the time-series deep learning network has high learning capability for reservoir scheduling by comparing evaluation indexes such as root mean square error (RMSE), rank-sum ratio (RSR), and Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE). The WT-LSTM network model put forward in this research offers better prediction accuracy than conventional recurrent neural networks and serves as a reference base for scheduling decisions by learning previous scheduling data to produce outflow solutions, which has some theoretical and practical benefits.

Climate change has increased the frequency of various types of meteorological disasters in recent years. Finding the primary factors that limit the emergency response capability of meteorological disasters through the evaluation of that capability and proposing corresponding improvement measures in order to increase that capability is of great practical importance. The evaluation of meteorological disaster emergency response capability still has some issues. The majority of research methods use qualitative analysis, which makes it challenging to deal with fuzzy factors, leading to conclusions that are subjective and insufficiently rigorous. The evaluation models themselves are also complex and challenging to simulate and analyze, making it challenging to promote and use them in practice. Deep learning techniques have made it easier to collect and process large amounts of data, which has opened new avenues for advancement in the emergency management of weather-related disasters. In this paper, we suggest a Recurrent Neural Network (RNN)-based dynamic capability feature extraction method. The process of evaluation content determination and index selection is used to build a meteorological disaster emergency response capability evaluation index system before an encoder, based on the encoder–decoder architecture, is built for dynamic feature extraction. The RNN autoencoder deep learning ability dynamic rating method used in this paper has been shown through a series of experiments to be able to not only efficiently extract ability features from time series data and reduce the dimensionality of ability features, but also to reduce the focus of the ability evaluation model on simple and abnormal samples, concentrate the model learning on difficult samples, and have a higher accuracy. As a result, it is more suitable for the problem situation at evaluation of the disaster capability.

Offshore wind farms play a pivotal role in the global transition to clean energy but remain susceptible to diverse meteorological hazards—ranging from highly variable wind speeds and temperature anomalies to severe oceanic disturbances—that can jeopardize both turbine safety and overall power output. Although Hidden Markov Models (HMMs) have a longstanding track record in operational forecasting, this study leverages and extends their capabilities by introducing a dynamic HMM framework tailored specifically for multi-risk offshore wind applications. Building upon historical datasets and expert assessments, the proposed model begins with initial transition and observation probabilities and then refines them adaptively through periodic or event-triggered recalibrations (e.g., Baum–Welch), thus capturing evolving weather patterns in near-real-time. Compared to static Markov chains, naive Bayes classifiers, and RNN (LSTM) baselines, our approach demonstrates notable accuracy gains, with improvements of up to 10% in severe weather conditions across three industrial-scale wind farms. Additionally, the model’s minutes-level computational overhead for parameter updates and state decoding proves feasible for real-time deployment, thereby supporting proactive scheduling and maintenance decisions. While this work focuses on the core dynamic HMM method, future expansions may incorporate hierarchical structures, Bayesian uncertainty quantification, and GAN-based synthetic data to further enhance robustness under high-dimensional measurements and rare, long-tail meteorological events. In sum, the multi-risk forecasting methodology presented here—though built on an established HMM concept—offers a practical, adaptive solution that significantly bolsters safety margins and operational reliability in offshore wind power systems.

In a turbine network, an accurate wind speed prediction plays a key role in improving the efficiency of turbine operations. At present, Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown their strong capabilities in time sequence forecasting. Unfortunately, the existing LLM-based models face the following two difficulties in precise wind speed prediction: (1) These models fail to capture spatio-temporal correlations. (2) These models rely exclusively on supervised learning to train. Supervised learning updates parameters by optimizing a loss function, which focuses solely on improving accuracy on a specific regression or classification task rather than understanding the true data distribution. To tackle these difficulties, we devise a novel wind speed prediction architecture entitled Spatio-Temporal GPT-2 United Generative Adversarial Network (STGPT2UGAN). In particular, in order to model spatio-temporal correlations, we first design a Spatio-Temporal GPT-2 (STGPT-2), which comprises a Spatio-Temporal Block and the variant of GPT-2. Second, to improve the training of STGPT-2, a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) is introduced to develop an adversarial training strategy. The strategy combines unsupervised training and supervised training in a complementary fashion. The unsupervised training promotes STGPT-2 to learn the distribution of true data through minimizing the adversarial loss. The supervised training intends to align the true values and the predicted values. We conduct the experiments on one real-world wind speed dataset. The experimental results verify that STGPT2UGAN outperforms the state-of-the-art benchmarks in terms of prediction precision.
