PhD in Biology (University of Porto, 2014) with a dissertation on Patterns and Drivers of Wildfire Occurrence and Post-Fire Vegetation Resilience Across Scales in Portugal. MSc in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources (CIBIO/FCUP, 2007), where he conducted research on chimpanzee habitat suitability and landscape dynamics in West Africa. Currently a Senior Researcher at ForestWISE, he has over 17 peer-reviewed publications and extensive collaborations with national and international partners. His scientific work spans biodiversity, ecology, conservation, ecological modelling, remote sensing, and fire ecology, with strong emphasis on understanding species distributions, ecosystem resilience, and land-use change impacts. Dr. Torres has broad experience in biodiversity monitoring and data analysis, combining ecological fieldwork with advanced modelling tools, remote sensing, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). His contributions include participation in several international projects (e.g., Interreg, H2020), where he has acted as both researcher and Science and Technology Manager. Research interests include biodiversity conservation, post-fire recovery, ecological modelling, and the integration of remote sensing and GIS for environmental assessment and decision support.
