J. Xavier holds the position of Associate Professor (Professor Associado) at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DEMI) at the NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT NOVA) of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. J. Xavier is an integrated researcher at the Research and Development Unit for Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (UNIDEMI). UNIDEMI received from the FCT-MCTES the evaluation of ``EXCELLENT''. Since obtaining the PhD degree, J. Xavier has participated, as a researcher, in 10 projects with industry and 11 projects funded by national government agencies (e.g., FCT, Portugal 2020, Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, ES, EPSRC Fellowship, UK). He is currently a principal investigator (PI) in a FCT project with reference to PTDC/EMD-EMD/1230/2021 and a co-PI in the project 2022.06903.PTDC. J. Xavier has published 95 papers in international peer-reviewed journals with an accumulated h-factor of 31. Among them, 52 articles were published in Q1 journals. J. Xavier has published five book chapters and contributed one didactic publication, among other (non-published) academic resources for students. J. Xavier completed the supervision/co-supervision of 4 PhD students (3rd cycle), 42 MSc students (2nd cycle), and 3 MSc ERASMUS students. Moreover, he is carrying out the supervision/co-supervision of seven PhD and five MSc students. He has been invited as a member of juries for PhD and MSc theses in Portugal and Europe (France, Spain, Italy, and Brazil).
