Kaitlyn Pike is a Ph.D. student exploring urban forest governance and green equity in the Urban Natures Lab at The University of British Columbia (Vancouver, B.C). Kaitlyn's research explores people's perceptions of urban trees and green spaces, how these perceptions are shaped, and who is included in (or excluded from) urban forest decision-making. Through her research, Kaitlyn aims to understand how communities can be empowered and supported to cultivate neighborhoods where both people and trees thrive. Kaitlyn received her B.A. in Environmental Studies (with a concentration in Sustainability) and her M.S. in Environmental Science at DePaul University (Chicago, IL). At DePaul, Kaitlyn was a part of Dr. Jess Vogt's Lab for Urban Forestry in the Anthropocene, where she assisted in evaluating municipal and non-profit forestry programs. Kaitlyn was the President/Co-founder of DePaul Trees and Senator for Sustainability/EVP of Operations for DePaul's Student Government Association. Kaitlyn's Masters' research preceded this study, where she worked alongside City Forester Dr. Keith O'Herrin to evaluate the city's residential tree preservation ordinance.
