Information

I am a broadly-trained anthropologist—a human biologist—whose research addresses cultural, behavioral and biological aspects of human health. I am an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology [University of Iowa] and an Emeritus Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Occupational & Environmental Health [University of Iowa]. During my career, I have worked as an independent researcher, project leader and team member at academic and for-profit institutions—successfully applying my training to basic and applied research in public health, medicine and anthropology. I have over 30 years of methodological and statistical programming experience and have worked with a variety of data types and data sources (e.g., clinical data, prospective cross-sectional data, Keokuk County Rural Health Study and state and national surveys, Real Iowans Research Initiative, Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index®). I have extensive clinical, community, field, laboratory, and survey research experience, broad administrative experience (e.g. staffing, research protections, budget), a long history of productive interdisciplinary research and have consistently produced peer-reviewed publications from every project.
