Dr Lea Žibret is a Research Associate at the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG) in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in the Department of Materials, Laboratory for Cement, Mortars and Ceramics. She holds a PhD in Geology from the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering. She began her career with geological studies, including structural geology, tectonics, palaeostress analysis, and geomorphological studies, and continued her work with the development of new low-carbon and low-energy construction materials with secondary raw materials. She has expertise in advanced techniques for microstructural, mineralogical, and chemical characterisation of mineral raw materials, including scanning electron microscopy, EDXS, XRD, and FTIR. During her career, she has also collaborated on the development of electrochemical sensors. Recently, her research interests include, among others, critical raw materials. She is leading a national research project focused on the lithogeochemical and mineralogical characterisation of dolomites and evaluating their potential for Mg extraction. She has published 25 scientific papers as author or co-author and has collaborated in various national and international projects.
