Marcus Liwicki earned his M.S. in Computer Science from the Free University of Berlin (2004), Ph.D. from the University of Bern (2007), and completed his habilitation at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern (2011). He is currently Professor of Machine Learning and Vice-Rector for AI at Luleå University of Technology. His research in pattern recognition and AI has resulted in 200+ publications; leadership roles as IAPR Vice President (TC6) and journal editorships (IEEE TPAMI, Pattern Recognition); and prestigious honors including the ICDAR Young Investigator Award (2015). His research interests include machine learning, pattern recognition, artificial intelligence, human–computer interaction, digital humanities, knowledge management, ubiquitous intuitive input devices, document analysis, and graph matching. Professor Liwicki's international collaborations span Japan (Kyushu University) and Europe, while his editorial and conference leadership continue to shape the fields of document analysis and graph-based pattern recognition.
