Lorenzo Monasta, DSc in Epidemiology, MSc in Medical Sciences, and MSc+BSc in Statistics and Demography, worked for ten years (1996–2006) as a Research Associate at CIETinternational in monitoring and evaluation and participatory research for health and social planning, using qualitative and quantitative research tools. Since 2007, he has worked at the Institute for Maternal and Child Health—IRCCS “Burlo Garofolo” as an epidemiologist, both in clinical and population settings. His research is focused primarily on maternal, child, and adolescent health, public health issues, and the burden of disease methodology. Since 2008, he has collaborated with the Global Burden of Disease Project (GBD), and since 2016 he has coordinated the Italian GBD Initiative, a network of over 150 Italian researchers and 20 research institutions.
