Biography

Dr. Luis Basso is an Associate Professor at the Laboratory of Physical Sciences at the State University of Northern Rio de Janeiro (UENF), Brazil. He holds a BSc (2006), MSc (2009), and PhD (2014) in Physics from the University of São Paulo (IFSC-USP), with a research internship at the University of Chicago (USA, 2011–2012). He completed two postdoctoral fellowships at the University of São Paulo, a research visit to North Carolina State University (2016), and a two-year postdoctoral position at the University of California, San Diego (2017–2019). Dr. Basso is a permanent faculty member of two graduate programs at UENF—Natural Sciences (PGCN) and Biosciences and Biotechnology (PGBB). His research lies at the intersection of soft matter physics, molecular biophysics, and nanotechnology, focusing on the structure-function relationship of membrane-active peptides, viral fusion mechanisms, and the development of biocompatible magnetic nanoparticles for biomedical applications such as magnetic hyperthermia. He is also a member of the Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry Group and the Nanoscience Research Group (https://nanobiotec.uenf.br/), and leads a lab dedicated to studying biomolecular interactions with model membranes using spectroscopic, calorimetric, and computational techniques.
