Biography

Dr. Manoj Kumar is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, focusing on Agrobacterium-mediated genetic engineering to enhance fatty acid biosynthesis for biofuel production. Previously, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Volcani Center, Israel, where he transformed recalcitrant cayenne pepper and developed purple pepper lines rich in anthocyanins, publishing in journals like the Journal of Experimental Botany and The Plant Journal. He earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from CSIR-NBRI and Integral University, India, with research on gene mining and creating drought-tolerant transgenic chickpea lines. His expertise spans plant molecular biology, tissue culture, CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing, and stress tolerance across crops including pepper, sorghum, chickpea, tomato, Arabidopsis, and tobacco. Dr. Kumar is skilled in advanced techniques such as cryosectioning, Laser Capture Microdissection, confocal microscopy, and Golden Gate cloning. He has published over 30 articles with an H-index of 20 and received awards like the New Phytologist Trust scholarship and Elsevier Reviewer Recognition. As a life member of the Society for Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology, he serves as a peer reviewer and guest editor for leading journals. His work bridges plant genetic engineering and stress tolerance, contributing significantly to crop improvement and biofuel research.
