Optimal control can be of help to test and compare different vaccination strategies of a certain disease. In this paper we propose the introduction ofconstraints involving state variables on an optimal control problem applied to a compartmental SEIR (Susceptible. Exposed, Infectious and Recovered) model. We study the solution of such problems when mixed state control constraints are used to impose upper bounds on the available vaccines at each instant of time. We also explore the possibility of imposing upper bounds on the number of susceptible individuals with and without limitations on the number of vaccines available. In the case of mere mixed constraints a numerical and analytical study is conducted while in the other two situations only numerical results are presented.

Nipah virus (NiV) infection is actually a panicky fright in the South-East Asian regions. Though this emerging infectious disease is one of the most alarming threats of the public health in these regions, the treatment of this disease is limited. In this study, we propound and analyze a mathematical model for controlling the spread of NiV infection with vital dynamics (birth and death rates are not equal), incorporating the quarantines of infectious individuals influenced by availability of isolation centers and surveillance coverage. What is more, we take into account on improved personal hygiene of the susceptible population influenced by public enlightenment campaign. It has been showed with the numerical simulations that improved personal hygiene and quarantining of infectious individuals are enough to control the spread of NiV and with improved personal hygiene, it will be more effective and efficient of the two control parameters.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the major concerns was a medical emergency in human society. Therefore it was necessary to control or restrict the disease spreading among populations in any fruitful way at that time. To frame out a proper policy for controlling COVID-19 spreading with limited medical facilities, here we propose an SEQAIHR model having saturated treatment. We check biological feasibility of model solutions and compute the basic reproduction number (\(R_0\)). Moreover, the model exhibits transcritical, backward bifurcation and forward bifurcation with hysteresis with respect to different parameters under some restrictions. Further to validate the model, we fit it with real COVID-19 infected data of Hong Kong from 19th December, 2021 to 3rd April, 2022 and estimate model parameters. Applying sensitivity analysis, we find out the most sensitive parameters that have an effect on \(R_0\). We estimate \(R_0\) using actual initial growth data of COVID-19 and calculate effective reproduction number for same period. Finally, an optimal control problem has been proposed considering effective vaccination and saturated treatment for hospitalized class to decrease density of the infected class and to minimize implemented cost.
