Michael G. Weller received a Ph.D. degree in analytical chemistry from the Technische Universität München (TUM), Germany, in 1992. Subsequently, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Ciba-Geigy AG, Basel, Switzerland, where he worked on fluorescence-based biosensors. When he returned to Munich, he became the Leader of the Bioanalytical Research Group at TUM and received his habilitation in the field of analytical chemistry in 2000. After that, he became the Head of the new Division 1.5 Bioanalytics, Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), Berlin, Germany. In 2008, he was appointed as a Private Lecturer at the Faculty of Chemisty, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU). In 2012, he established the new Division 1.5 Protein Analysis at BAM.
