Ming Dao, PhD, is Director and Principal Investigator of the Nanomechanics Laboratory in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT. He was named the Singapore Research Chair Professor in Bioengineering and Infectious Disease by MIT in 2012 and elected a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2016. He has held visiting or adjunct professorships at the National Institute of Blood Transfusion (INTS), France (2016–2017); Xi’an Jiaotong University, China (2011–2020); and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (2018–2024). His research focuses on cell mechanics in human disease, nanomechanics of advanced materials, and applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning in engineering and biomedicine. He has published more than 180 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including Science, Nature Materials, Nature Protocols, Science Advances, Nature Communications, and PNAS, and has a Google Scholar h-index of 79. His work has been recognized through ScholarGPS Highly Ranked Scholar—Lifetime (inaugural cohort, since 2022), Scilit Top Cited Scholar (since 2024), and Stanford–Elsevier Top 2% Scientists (single-year since 2019; career since 2020). He has also chaired or co-chaired more than 20 international symposia and workshops.
