Information

My general research interest is muscle plasticity in response to training, detraining, normal aging, and chronic disease. This overarching research goal requires foundational work in the following key areas: characterizing muscle quality based on tissue composition, validating clinical assessments of motor performance, and developing exercise-based rehabilitation interventions. These research activities have involved the development or refinement of assessment methods such as force control testing, anaerobic fatigue assessment, functional batteries, and non-invasive morphology assessment via sonography. My group's current laboratory efforts include the development of sonographic methods for sarcopenia and myosteatosis screening, and exploring the physiologic advantages of eccentric muscle actions for use in rehabilitation interventions for older adults.
