Dr McCarthy is an early-career researcher with experience researching suicide prevention across a number of settings (e.g., emergency departments, primary care, schools). She has expertise in qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods research with a strong focus on public and patient involvement and engagement. Her work has contributed to evidence-informed changes in emergency and crisis care pathways and has been disseminated through high impact publications and international conferences. Currently, she is completing an NIHR Advanced Research Fellowship based at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) exploring emergency department coding practices for people attending in suicidal crisis.
