Margarida Q. Rodrigues is a Scientist at iBET’s Cell-Based Vaccines Development Laboratory, where she develops protein-engineered nanotherapeutics for immune and cell modulation. Her work spans protein engineering, bioconjugation, and recombinant production to create versatile nanoparticle platforms with applications in vaccines, cancer, metabolic disease, and transplant-related immunoregulation. She completed her PhD in Molecular Biosciences (ITQB NOVA/iBET), where she established engineering and bioprocessing strategies for ferritin-based nanoparticles. Her doctoral work included international research stays at Sapienza University of Rome and at the New York Structural Biology Center / Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Margarida graduated in Biological Engineering at IST-UL in 2019. She conducted her MSc thesis at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU, Vienna), developing a non-invasive monitoring system for 3D cell cultures in perfusion bioreactors. As a junior researcher at iBET in 2020, she contributed to vaccine and protein production projects, including upstream development of a malaria vaccine candidate and downstream processing of a Chagas disease vaccine candidate.
