Dr. Munawwar Ali Khan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences (LES) of the College of Natural and Health Sciences at Zayed University, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He received a Ph.D. in 2001 in the area of Environmental Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan. His research interests are in the area of environmental microbiology, microbial ecology, and biotechnology. His specific focus is on applying traditional and advanced molecular techniques to explore microbial communities in natural and engineered ecosystems such as wastewater treatment, anaerobic digester, and marine and soil environments. He is also applying molecular tools to detect and study antibiotic-resistant bacteria in treated wastewater used for irrigation and recreational activities, food, water, and soil ecosystems.
