Dr. Nivethitha Somu is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Energy Research Institute @ Nanyang Technological University (ERI@N), Singapore). Her research lies at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, sustainable energy systems, and smart building technologies, focusing on the development of intelligent, data-driven frameworks for energy efficiency, resilience, and sustainability.
She has designed and implemented AI-based solutions for real-time energy optimization, occupant-centric thermal comfort, and predictive maintenance in smart building and microgrid environments. Prior to joining NTU, Dr. Somu was an Institute Postdoctoral Fellow at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, where she led projects in smart grid analytics, electricity theft detection, and thermal comfort modeling.
She obtained her Ph.D. in Computer Science from SASTRA University, India, under the DST-INSPIRE Fellowship, and was conferred the Founder Chancellor’s Award for the best doctoral dissertation in Engineering. Her publications appear in top-tier journals including Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Applied Energy, and Building and Environment. She also holds patents on AI-powered thermal tile systems and solar irradiance forecasting frameworks.
