A software engineer at the USC Michelson Convergent Science Institute in Cancer whose focus is end to end data engineering from immunofluorescent image acquisition, machine learning powered rare cell detection, and GUI interface development. Using unsupervised learning methods of outlier detection, I developed methods of extracting not just circulating tumor cells from the immunofluorescent images but a superset of rare cells that proved to be clinically relevant. As a strong proponent of maximizing serendipitous moments in a lab, I created exploratory algorithms to fuel the discovery process via combination of supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods, and with a powerful interface, the scientist can be playful with the data as well as being presented with hypotheses on what cell types have clinical significance.
