Assistant Professor at the University of Coimbra (FMUC), holding a DMD and PhD in Endodontics . He is Sub-director of CIROS and an integrated member of the Institute of Endodontics. His research focuses on regenerative endodontic procedures, applying novel biomaterials and nanomaterials to improve root canal therapy and vital pulp therapy. With 79 articles, 3300 citations, and an h-index of 38, his work is published in IEJ, JOE, and Journal of Dentistry. He is listed in Stanford's World's Top 2% Scientists (2024/2025, ranked 1631-1681 in Dentistry/Clinical Med) and has received 32+ merit awards, including Personality of the Year in Endodontics 2014 (Portugal). An educator since 2014, he teaches Endodontic III in the Integrated Master's program and supervises MSc/PhD students. Clinically active since 2001, he integrates research, teaching, and practice. He is Vice-President of the IADR Pulp Biology & Regeneration Group, serves on IADR committees, and is a Certified Member of ESE. He also serves as a Scientific Expert for the European Medicines Agency (EMA). He holds Editorial/Advisory Board roles at IEJ, European Endodontic Journal, European Journal of Dentistry, and JOE. Co-founder of the Portuguese Society of Digital Dentistry and the European Academy of Digital Dentistry, he is also a member of the Spanish and Portuguese Endodontic Societies.
