Tom Chau is a Senior Scientist at Bloorview Research Institute, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, and a full Professor at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. He is the Chang Family Foundation Chair in Access Innovations. He holds a PhD from the University of Waterloo and is a licensed professional engineer. He was previously Canada Research Chair in Pediatric Rehabilitation Engineering (2004-2014) and Vice President of Research at Holland Bloorview (2012-2022). His recent research has focused on the investigation of novel access pathways for children and youth with severe physical impairments. These pathways include vocal fold vibrations, brain signals, orofacial gestures, sign language and vocalizations.
