Dr. Peng Chen is an Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Dentistry, Tohoku University, Japan. He received his B.E. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Xiamen University, China, in 2007 and his M.E. degree in the same field from Inha University, South Korea, in 2009. In 2013, he received his Ph.D. in Advanced Science and Engineering through the Waseda–NIMS Joint Graduate Program at Waseda University and the National Institute for Materials Science, Japan. Following his doctoral studies, he joined the Institute of Biomaterials and Bioengineering at Tokyo Medical and Dental University in 2013. In 2023, he moved to the Graduate School of Dentistry at Tohoku University, where he is currently engaged in interdisciplinary research at the interface of materials science, biology, and dentistry. His research interests include bioactive metallic materials, multiscale surface engineering, laser-based materials processing, antibacterial biomaterials, material–cell interactions, and biomaterials for tissue regeneration. His current research focuses on the design of smart biointerfaces with precisely controlled surface chemistry and micro-/nanotopography to regulate cellular responses and promote functional integration between implantable devices and surrounding tissues. Outside of research, he enjoys music, swimming, marathon running, and outdoor activities.
