Pedro Gamboa is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Aerospace Sciences at the University of Beira Interior (UBI) and holds a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering (University of Beira Interior, 2007). He is a member of the Centre for Mechanical and Aerospace Science and Technologies (C-MAST) of UBI with research activities involving mainly multidisciplinary optimization of aircraft design, development of adaptive wing concepts and structural design. His main research activities aim to develop concepts to improve the overall efficiency of aerospace vehicles taking into account three main aspects: energy requirements, mission effectiveness and environmental impact. He maintains various collaborations with companies in the aerospace/aviation sector with a view to developing and testing aerospace technologies. He has designed several remotely piloted and autonomous aircraft systems, including one with a variable wingspan to improve flight efficiency and a solar electric aircraft. He has authored/co-authored more than 80 publications in scientific journals and international conferences.
