Under the background of global warming and accelerating urbanization, the interaction between heat waves (HWs) and canopy urban heat island (CUHI) has become one of the focuses in the field of global climate change research. This paper comprehensively reviewed and summarized the research process on the synergies of HWs and CUHI and their influencing mechanism. The coupling effect between HWs and CUHI remains debated, which may be related to the use of different standards to define heat wave events. The spatiotemporal differences in the synergies between HWs and CUHI was also influenced by climate background and local circulation. For instance, scholars have reached different conclusions regarding the stronger synergistic effect between daytime and nighttime in cities with different climate backgrounds. In addition, the modulation of urban morphological structure to the synergies between HWs and CUHI cannot be ignored. In the future, it is necessary to adopt different definitions of HWs to systematically study the formation mechanism of urban excess warming from different climatic backgrounds, local circulation conditions, and urban morphologies.

The properties of light propagation underwater typically cause color distortion and reduced contrast in underwater images. In addition, complex underwater lighting conditions can result in issues such as non-uniform illumination, spotting, and noise. To address these challenges, we propose an innovative underwater-image enhancement (UIE) approach based on maximum information-channel compensation and edge-preserving filtering techniques. Specifically, we first develop a channel information transmission strategy grounded in maximum information preservation principles, utilizing the maximum information channel to improve the color fidelity of the input image. Next, we locally enhance the color-corrected image using guided filtering and generate a series of globally contrast-enhanced images by applying gamma transformations with varying parameter values. In the final stage, the enhanced image sequence is decomposed into low-frequency (LF) and high-frequency (HF) components via side-window filtering. For the HF component, a weight map is constructed by calculating the difference between the current exposedness and the optimum exposure. For the LF component, we derive a comprehensive feature map by integrating the brightness map, saturation map, and saliency map, thereby accurately assessing the quality of degraded regions in a manner that aligns with the symmetry principle inherent in human vision. Ultimately, we combine the LF and HF components through a weighted summation process, resulting in a high-quality underwater image. Experimental results demonstrate that our method effectively achieves both color restoration and contrast enhancement, outperforming several State-of-the-Art UIE techniques across multiple datasets.

Traditional intent recognition algorithms of intelligent prosthesis often use deep learning technology. However, deep learning’s high accuracy comes at the expense of high computational and energy consumption requirements. Mobile edge computing is a viable solution to meet the high computation and real‐time execution requirements of deep learning algorithm on mobile device. In this paper, we consider the computation offloading problem of multiple heterogeneous edge servers in intelligent prosthesis scenario. Firstly, we present the problem definition and the detail design of MEC‐based task offloading model for deep neural network. Then, considering the mobility of amputees, the mobility‐aware energy consumption model and latency model are proposed. By deploying the deep learning‐based motion intent recognition algorithm on intelligent prosthesis in a real‐world MEC environment, the effectiveness of the task offloading and scheduling strategy is demonstrated. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithms can always find the optimal task offloading and scheduling decision.

In the context of global climate change, lightning disasters have emerged as a serious environmental factor that restricts the sustainable development of megacities. This paper provides a review of the research on the impact of urbanization on thunderstorm processes and lightning activity, exploring various aspects, such as aerosols, urban thermal effects, urban dynamic effects, and building morphology. Despite numerous significant achievements in the study of the impact of air pollutants on lightning activity, there is no consensus on whether aerosols serve to enhance or inhibit lightning activity. The temperature difference between the urban underlying surface and the natural underlying surface could sustain and promote the occurrence and development of convective systems, thus enhancing lightning activity. In terms of urban dynamics, the barrier effect has led to the maximum center of lightning appearing at the edge of a built-up area, which might be associated with factors, such as urban heat island (UHI) intensity, wind speed, synoptic background, and city size. Additionally, the size of a city and the height of the buildings was also an influencing factor on lightning activity. In summary, scholars have made progress in understanding the characteristics and drivers of urban lightning activity in recent years, but there are still some urgent problems that need to be solved: (1) How to analyze, comprehensively, the spatiotemporal patterns of urban lightning activity under different thunderstorm intensity backgrounds? (2) How to conduct analysis to investigate the influence of alterations in the boundary layer structure, water–heat energy balance, and water vapor circulation processes on urban lightning activity in the context of urbanization? (3) How to couple numerical models of different scales to enhance the understanding of the impact of complex underlying surfaces on urban lightning activity? Future studies could investigate the relationship between urbanization and thunderstorm/lightning activity using a combination of observational data, numerical modeling, and laboratory experiments, which holds promise for providing valuable theoretical insights and technical support to enhance the prediction, nowcasting, early warning, and risk assessment of thunderstorms and lightning in urban areas.

Background: Hypertension is the fifth chronic disease causing death worldwide. The early prognosis and diagnosis are critical in the hypertension care process. Inspired by human philosophy, CBR is an empirical knowledge reasoning method for early detection and intervention of hypertension by only reusing electronic health records. However, the traditional similarity calculation method often ignores the internal characteristics and potential information of medical examination data. Methods: In this paper, we first calculate the weights of input attributes by a random forest algorithm. Then, the risk value of hypertension from each medical examination can be evaluated according to the input data and the attribute weights. By fitting the risk values into a risk curve of hypertension, we calculate the similarity between different community residents, and obtain the most similar case according to the similarity. Finally, the diagnosis and treatment protocol of the new case can be given. Results: The experiment data comes from the medical examination of Tianqiao Community (Tongling City, Anhui Province, China) from 2012 to 2021. It contains 4143 community residents and 43,676 medical examination records. We first discuss the effect of the influence factor and the decay factor on similarity calculation. Then we evaluate the performance of the proposed FDA-CBR algorithm against the GRA-CBR algorithm and the CS-CBR algorithm. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is highly efficient and accurate. Conclusions: The experiment results show that the proposed FDA-CBR algorithm can effectively describe the variation tendency of the risk value and always find the most similar case. The accuracy of FDA-CBR algorithm is higher than GRA-CBR algorithm and CS-CBR algorithm, increasing by 9.94 and 16.41%, respectively.

This study addresses a crucial gap in understanding the impact of urban morphologies on the canopy urban heat islands (CUHI) effect. The selection of reference stations lacks a unified standard, and their surface air temperature (SAT) sequences are also inevitably influenced by urbanization. However, synchronous observational data from relocated meteorological stations could provide high-quality sample data for studying CUHI. Utilizing remote sensing techniques, the findings of this paper revealed that the observation environment of stations after relocation exhibited remarkable representativeness, with their observation sequences accurately reflecting the local climatic background. The differences in synchronized observation sequences could characterize the CUHI intensity (CUHII). Among the various factors, land use parameters and landscape parameters played particularly significant roles. Furthermore, the fitting performance of the random forest (RF) model for both training and testing data was significantly superior to that of the linear model and support vector regression (SVR) model. Additionally, the influence of local circulation on CUHI could not be overlooked. The mechanisms by which urban morphologies affect CUHII under different circulation backgrounds deserve further investigation.
