Biography

Dr. Das is an Associate Professor of Hydrogen Energy Systems. His research interests span the broad areas of energy conversion and storage, with a particular focus on the thermofluid aspects of lithium-ion batteries, hydrogen fuel cells, flow batteries, and solar-hydrogen generators, as well as design and optimization through additive manufacturing and multiphysics modeling. He is also interested in fundamental studies of nature-inspired convective heat transfer. He is also developing a research program focused on the safety, health, and environmental challenges associated with electric vehicle (EV) batteries, as battery fires and other safety hazards can pose serious threats to human life and the natural environment when batteries are abused, damaged, or improperly handled. He has published more than 150 scientific articles on hydrogen fuel cells, lithium-ion batteries, convective heat transfer, and multiphysics modeling. He is also the author of the book Fuel Cells for Transportation: Fundamental Principles and Applications. His publications have received more than 5,400 citations, and he has an h-index of 34. Dr. Das served as an Associate Editor for the ASME Journal of Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Storage, Frontiers in Energy Research, and Frontiers in Chemical Engineering. He has also served as an editorial or advisory board member for several journals, including Energies, Batteries, Renewable and Sustainable Energy, Inventions, and Challenges.
