Biography

During my undergraduate research training at a new drug discovery lab working on developing anti-cancer and anti-parkinsonian drugs, I confronted a recurring issue with the new chemical entities i.e. poor aqueous solubility and bioavailability. After observing great in vitro results, letting the compounds go was heart-breaking. This motivated me to get my Master's degree in pharmaceutics and drug delivery, a field dedicated to delivering drugs in the most efficient manner. I was presented with an opportunity to work with one of the leading research groups focused on enhancing the dissolution and bioavailability of drugs using hot-melt extrusion. Amid training in formulation development and processing of drugs with poor solubility and bioavailability, I realized that not only was I able to enhance the solubility but I was also able to control the release dynamics of the drug. Inspired by my Master's research training I decided to get my Ph.D. at UT Austin with a group specializing in the field of personalized medicine using 3D printing. Currently, I'm focusing on two approaches to solubility enhancement which include developing amorphous solid dispersions and cocrystals using hot-melt extrusion, and further combining them with additive manufacturing processes such as, fused deposition modeling, selective laser sintering, and binder spraying techniques.

Best Abstract Award 2020

American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists

This award brings attention to the most exciting research to be found in the posters, based on abstracts that are submitted and screened before the event. My abstract titled, Selective Laser Sintering Based 3‐Dimensional Printing as a Single Step Process to Prepare Amorphous Solid Dispersion for Improved Bioavailability was among the top 10% of abstracts based on high ratings by AAPS Abstract Screening Committee.
