Biography

Rouven Christen is a Senior Researcher and Lecturer at OST—Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences, specializing in the thermal and electrical characterization of Li-ion batteries. He holds a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree in Mechatronics from HTWG Konstanz - University of Applied Sciences. Over the past 10 years, his research has focused on the thermal characterization of battery cells, particularly through experimental methods for analyzing heat generation in prismatic and cylindrical formats. More recently, he has expanded this work to include micro-calorimetry techniques for coin cells. He has also developed black-box models based on experimental data to support system-level thermal simulations and battery management strategies. Earlier in his career at Empa—Swiss Federal Laboratories for Material Science and Technology, he contributed to non-destructive testing methods and structural monitoring using wireless sensor networks. His multidisciplinary background spans signal processing, modeling and simulation, control, measurement technology, and battery systems—reflecting over 20 years of applied research in academic and industry partnerships.
