For the past 20 years he has been involved in experimental research in fluvial, estuarine and coastal processes, development of laboratory instrumentation and mathematical modelling of free-surface flows. This includes fundamental research in characterization of turbulence in flows with rough boundaries, flows with mobile boundaries and flows around solid bodies. It also includes modelling of debris flows, dam-break flows and tsunamis. Has coordinated five international and national projects and published over 40 international and national journal papers. He coordinates the development efforts of laboratory instrumentation, including PIV and bedload measuring systems and of mathematical modelling tools as HiSTAV model. He is a member of the leadership team of the Fluvial Hydraulics Committee and the Chair of the Experimental Methods and Instrumentation Committee of IAHR. He is an Associate Editor of Journal of Hydraulic Engineering and Advances in Water Resources and has been guest editor in several international journals.
