Ruping Mo received his B.Sc. Degree in Meteorology from Sun Yat-sen University (Guangzhou) in 1983. He completed his M.Sc. Degree in Meteorology at the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences (Beijing) in 1986 and worked as a research assistant at the Beijing Institute of Meteorology from 1986 to 1990. He received his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Cambridge. Dr. Mo completed his postdoctoral research at McGill University before joining the Center Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies in 1998. He then joined Environment and Climate Change Canada in 1999, first working as an operational meteorologist (1999–2010) and then as a senior research meteorologist (2010–present). Dr. Mo’s research projects focus on improving scientific understanding and prediction of high-impact weather in coastal and mountainous environments and facilitating technology transfer of scientific results, especially advances in high-resolution numerical weather prediction, into operational weather forecasting applications in Canada.
