Sergey E. Avetisov graduated with honors from the Medical Faculty of the 1st Moscow Medical Institute named I. M. Sechenov in 1973. In 1985 he defended the doctoral dissertation on the topic «Clinical and experimental study of the possibilities of surgical correction of astigmatism». Awarded the academic title of professor in 1991. He received the title of full member of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2011, and he received the title of Academician of the Russian Academy of Science later.
