Volkan KahyaThis study presents damage localisation in steel cantilever beams including multiple cracks based on changes in the modal curvature and flexibility. Natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes of circular-hollow-sectional and box-sectional steel cantilever beams are obtained by analytical and experimental models under six damage scenarios. Based on these data, the modal curvature and modal flexibility methods are employed to localise the cracks within the beams. Comparisons are made to show effectiveness of the methods in determination of crack locations.

About Me
Dr. Sebahat Şimşek received her B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering from Karadeniz Technical University, Türkiye, and completed her postdoctoral research at the Applied Mechanics Research Group (AMRG), Ghent University, Belgium. She is currently a Research Assistant in the Department of Civil Engineering at Karadeniz Technical University. Her research interests focus on computational mechanics, structural engineering, and advanced composite materials, with particular emphasis on functionally graded materials, sandwich and composite structures, three-dimensional elasticity, buckling and free vibration analyses, structural dynamics, elastic foundations, structural health monitoring, and optimization-based damage detection.
