Anomaly detection has gained considerable attention in the past couple of years. Emerging technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), are known to be among the most critical sources of data streams that produce massive amounts of data continuously from numerous applications. Examining these collected data to detect suspicious events can reduce functional threats and avoid unseen issues that cause downtime in the applications. Due to the dynamic nature of the data stream characteristics, many unresolved problems persist. In the existing literature, methods have been designed and developed to evaluate certain anomalous behaviors in IoT data stream sources. However, there is a lack of comprehensive studies that discuss all the aspects of IoT data processing. Thus, this paper attempts to fill this gap by providing a complete image of various state-of-the-art techniques on the major problems and core challenges in IoT data. The nature of data, anomaly types, learning mode, window model, datasets, and evaluation criteria are also presented. Research challenges related to data evolving, feature-evolving, windowing, ensemble approaches, nature of input data, data complexity and noise, parameters selection, data visualizations, heterogeneity of data, accuracy, and large-scale and high-dimensional data are investigated. Finally, the challenges that require substantial research efforts and future directions are summarized.

Chatbot implementation for assisting customers as a virtual agent can be seen as a tool in helping an organisation to serve better customer service. Malaysia is among the countries forging ahead with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. One of the core technologies mentioned is adopting artificial intelligence tools such as chatbots. In the last few years, there has been a growing interest in AI-based chatbot adoption in the non-HEI context. However, most higher-education institutions (HEIs) are reported not ready to adopt AI-based chatbots as one of the solutions for virtual student services support. The research of chatbot adoption in the HEI context is still new and is a less explored and examined topic in the information systems domain. Moreover, most of the existing research regarding chatbot adoption in the HEI context focuses more on the benefit of chatbot usage and is not specialised in a student services solution perspective. Furthermore, most of the studies were not guided by the information systems (IS) theories. Therefore, this study aims to identify factors that influence the effectiveness of chatbot adoption in the HEI context by adapting the UTAUT2 model as the IS theory reference. A survey method was applied using the purposive sampling technique. For 3 months, data were collected online from 302 users of Malaysia’s HEI postgraduate students from various public and private universities. A two-stage analytical procedure (SEM-ANN) was used to validate the research model and assess the presented research hypotheses. This research reveals that perceived trust is influenced by interactivity, design, and ethics. Meanwhile, behavioural intention is influenced by perceived trust, performance expectancy, and habit towards the use of chatbot applications in the HEI context. Lastly, the findings of this study can be helpful to the HEI student services unit and can be a guide towards productivity and marketing strategy in serving the students better.

Artificial intelligence (AI)-based chatbots have received considerable attention during the last few years. However, little is known concerning what affects their use for educational purposes. This research, therefore, develops a theoretical model based on extracting constructs from the expectation confirmation model (ECM) (expectation confirmation, perceived usefulness, and satisfaction), combined with the knowledge management (KM) factors (knowledge sharing, knowledge acquisition, and knowledge application) to understand the sustainable use of chatbots. The developed model was then tested based on data collected through an online survey from 448 university students who used chatbots for learning purposes. Contrary to the prior literature that mainly relied on structural equation modeling (SEM) techniques, the empirical data were analyzed using a hybrid SEM-artificial neural network (SEM-ANN) approach. The hypotheses testing results reinforced all the suggested hypotheses in the developed model. The sensitivity analysis results revealed that knowledge application has the most considerable effect on the sustainable use of chatbots with 96.9% normalized importance, followed by perceived usefulness (70.7%), knowledge acquisition (69.3%), satisfaction (61%), and knowledge sharing (19.6%). Deriving from these results, the study highlighted a number of practical implications that benefit developers, designers, service providers, and instructors.

While adopting chatbots powered by artificial intelligence could enhance knowledge sharing, it also causes challenges due to the “dark side” of these agents. However, research on the factors influencing chatbots for knowledge sharing is lacking. To bridge this gap, we developed the integrated chatbot acceptance-avoidance model, which looks at the positive and negative determinants of using chatbots for knowledge sharing. Through a comprehensive questionnaire survey of 447 students, the research model is evaluated using the partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), a symmetric approach, and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) as an asymmetric approach. The PLS-SEM results supported the positive role of performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and habit and the negative role of perceived threats in affecting chatbot use for knowledge sharing. Although PLS-SEM results revealed that social influence, facilitating conditions, and hedonic motivation have no impact on chatbot use, the fsQCA analysis revealed that all factors might play a role in shaping the use of chatbots. In addition to the theoretical contributions, the findings provide several managerial implications for universities, instructors, and chatbot developers to help them make insightful decisions and promote the use of chatbots.
