Dr. R. V. Shchepin received BS (Chemistry), 2000, from Perm State University (PSU, Russia) in the area of organic chemistry with focus on heterocyclic chemistry and Reformatsky Reaction. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL, USA) and received 2006, PhD degree (Chemistry) with focus on ozonolysis and quorum-sensing molecules for Candida Albicans management. Following postdoctoral fellowship (2007-2009, antioxidant chemistry and HR-MS) at Vanderbilt University, Department of Chemistry (Nashville, USA), he joined Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Science (VUIIS, Nashville, USA) working on projects related to isotopic enrichment for purposes of hyperpolarized imaging. In 2019, Dr. Shchepin became Assistant Professor at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSM&T, Rapid City, SD, USA), which is also known simply as South Dakota Mines. There, he continued the theme of hyperpolarized research with focus on both chemistry and engineering projects. His synthetic approaches also extend to catalyst development for both hydrogenative (irreversible) ParaHydrogen-Induced Polarization (PHIP) and Signal Amplification By Reversible Exchange (SABRE). Another direction that he pursues at the moment is instrumentation development for hyperpolarization, NMR and recently for Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR). He is coauthor of >74 peer-reviewed publications, 3 successful patents and a book chapter.
