Dr. Shervin Hashemi

Dr. Shervin Hashemi holds concurrent positions as a senior researcher at the Institute for Environmental Research at Yonsei University College of Medicine, Seoul, Republic of Korea, and as an honorary research associate at the Durban University of Technology, Faculty of Management Sciences, South Africa. His primary research focus is on water and sanitation provision in remote areas. Dr. Hashemi's innovative Resource Circulated Sanitation system garnered recognition through the Leaving No One Behind Innovation Award 2019 and Energy Globe Republic of Korea National Award 2019. Additionally, he developed the Sanitation Sustainability Index to assess the technical, economic, and social sustainability of local sanitation systems. Since 2017, Dr. Hashemi has been an active member of the management committee of the International Water Association (IWA) Resource-Oriented Sanitation Specialist Group. In 2021, he received a nomination for the IWA Global Water Award, which acknowledges individuals who have made significant contributions to the judicious use of water globally through innovative leadership and practice. Dr. Hashemi also serves on the editorial board of the journal Sustainability (ISSN 2071-1050).
