Biography

Dr. Eng. Saverio Teodosio Nilo achieved the PhD degree in Engineering for Innovation and Sustainable Development in 2018 at the faculty of engineering of the University of Basilicata after the master's degree in telecommunications engineering with a specialization in processing of remote sensed data obtained in 2012 at the University of Pise. Since June 2013 he has been part, as a fellow researcher, of the research group “SATCLOP” of the National Research Council of Italy, Institute of Methodologies for Environmental Analysis (CNR- IMAA). Currently he is permanent researcher at the CNR-IMAA with more than ten years of expertise in satellite remote sensing of the atmosphere and renewable energies. His main activities have covered the prediction of incident solar radiance at specific points of the Earth's surface applied to the estimation of energy production from renewable sources and the investigation of the fog role in solar energy production. He constantly uses satellite data to produce maps of fog and NWP model to derive the forecast of fog at local scale. He is author of more than twenty published peer reviewed works. He also led strategic projects commissioned by the ESA in estimating the atmosphere attenuation in the pioneer W-band microwaves satellite communications. He has expertise in programming with C/C++, Fortran and Python languages as well as in the use of scientific computing software like R, Matlab, Mc-IDAS, Google Earth Engine Code, Jupyter Notebooks.
