Dr. Salvador Resino has a degree in Biological Sciences (1983–1988) and a degree in Pharmacy (1989–1996) from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). In 1995, He began training as an internal resident biologist (BIR) in the Department of Immunology of the Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón (HGUGM, Spain), completing a training period of 4 years. In 2000, Dr. Resino received his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from UCM with a distinction of Summa "Cum Laude" and an Extraordinary Doctoral Award. Later, in 2004, he also obtained a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the Autonomous University of Madrid with a distinction of Summa "Cum Laude" and a Doctoral Award from the Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain. During his stay at the HGUGM (1997–2007), he mainly studied HIV infection in vertically infected children, highlighting the influence of antiretroviral treatments on the natural history of HIV infection. In 2007, Dr. Resino joined the National Center for Microbiology (Institute of Health Carlos III, Spain) as a Senior Researcher in infectious diseases. Currently, Dr. Resino is the head of the Unit of Viral Infection and Immunity (CNM-ISCIII), a leading group studying the immunopathogenesis of viral (HIV, HBV, HCV, HEV, RSV, and SARS-CoV-2) and bacterial (sepsis, tuberculosis, etc.) infections in patients with and without HIV infection, and their impact on the clinical course (translational research).
