Tool wear prediction can ensure product quality and production efficiency during manufacturing. Although traditional methods have achieved some success, they often face accuracy and real-time performance limitations. The current study combines multi-channel 1D convolutional neural networks (1D-CNNs) with temporal convolutional networks (TCNs) to enhance the precision and efficiency of tool wear prediction. A multi-channel 1D-CNN architecture is constructed to extract features from multi-source data. Additionally, a TCN is utilized for time series analysis to establish long-term dependencies and achieve more accurate predictions. Moreover, considering the parallel computation of the designed architecture, the computational efficiency is significantly improved. The experimental results reveal the performance of the established model in forecasting tool wear and its superiority to the existing studies in all relevant evaluation indices.

This paper proposes an enhanced multi-strategy sparrow search algorithm to optimize the trajectory of a six-axis industrial robot, addressing issues of low efficiency and high vibration impact on joints during operation. Initially, the improved D-H parametric method is employed to establish both forward and inverse kinematic models of the robot. Subsequently, a 3-5-3 mixed polynomial interpolation trajectory planning approach is applied to the robot. Building upon the conventional sparrow algorithm, a two-dimensional Logistic chaotic system initializes the population. Additionally, a Levy flight strategy and nonlinear adaptive weighting are introduced to refine the discoverer position update operator, while an inverse learning strategy enhances the vigilante position update operator. These modifications boost both the local and global search capabilities of the algorithm. The improved sparrow algorithm, based on 3-5-3 hybrid polynomial trajectory planning, is then used for the time-optimal trajectory planning of the robot. This is compared with traditional sparrow search algorithm and particle swarm algorithm optimization results. The findings indicate that the proposed enhanced sparrow search algorithm outperforms both the standard sparrow algorithm and the particle swarm algorithm in terms of convergence speed and accuracy for robot trajectory optimization. This can lead to the increased work efficiency and performance of the robot.

Vending machines have evolved into a critical element of the intelligent healthcare service system. To enhance the precision of pill box detection counting and cater to the lightweight requirements of its internal embedded controller for deep learning frameworks, an enhanced lightweight YOLOv8n model is introduced. A dataset comprising 4080 images is initially compiled for model training and assessment purposes. The refined YOLOv8n-ShuffleNetV2 model is crafted, featuring the integration of ShuffleNetv2 as the new backbone network, the incorporation of the VoVGSCSP module to bolster feature extraction capabilities, and the utilization of the Wise-IoU v3 loss function for bounding box regression enhancement. Moreover, a model pruning strategy based on structured pruning (SFP) and layer-wise adaptive magnitude pruning (LAMP) is implemented. Comparative experimental findings demonstrate that the enhanced and pruned model has elevated the mean Average Precision (mAP) rate from 94.5% to 95.1%. Furthermore, the model size has been reduced from 11.1 MB to 6.0 MB, and the inference time has been notably decreased from 1.97 s to 0.34 s. The model’s accuracy and efficacy are validated through experiments conducted on the Raspberry Pi 4B platform. The outcomes of the experiments underscore how the refined model significantly amplifies the deployment efficiency of the deep learning model on resource-limited devices, thus greatly supporting the advancement of intelligent medicine management and medical vending machine applications.

Multilayer insulation (MLI) components are important parts of spacecraft, in which thin films are the core elements. The film thicknesses are generally small, between 10 and 30 μm, to reduce the weight of the spacecraft. During the launch of a spacecraft, there is a rapid drop in the internal pressure, which causes the internal gas to flow out rapidly through the component. The resulting fluid force may cause film damage and failure, thereby directly affecting the normal operation of the spacecraft. Therefore, the mechanical characteristics of the thin films under rapid decompression conditions were investigated during this study. Considering the effects of the flow field stress distributions on the films during the rapid decompression, a fluid–structure interaction (FSI) model for a component was first constructed. The results show that the stress is largest in the outlet film, which is the part of the overall structure most vulnerable to failure. Furthermore, the effects of the structural parameters of the component on the stresses in the different film layers were analyzed using the orthogonal experimental method. The results show that the film thickness had the largest influence, followed by the film hole diameter, the number of component layers, and finally the staggered hole distance. Finally, a structurally optimized design scheme for the component is proposed based on a parameter range analysis with respect to the maximum film stress. After optimization, the maximum stress of the thin film decreased by 97.6%. This research has practical engineering value for the structural design and optimization of MLI components.

Tool wear (TW) is the gradual deterioration and loss of cutting edges due to continuous cutting operations in real production scenarios. This wear can affect the quality of the cut, increase production costs, reduce workpiece accuracy, and lead to sudden tool breakage, affecting productivity and safety. Nevertheless, since conventional tool wear monitoring (TWM) approaches often employ complex physical models and empirical rules, their application to complex and non-linear manufacturing processes is challenging. As a result, this study presents a TWM model using a convolutional neural network (CNN), an Informer encoder, and bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM). First, local feature extraction is performed on the input multi-sensor signals using CNN. Then, the Informer encoder deals with long-term time dependencies and captures global time features. Finally, BiLSTM captures the time dependency in the data and outputs the predicted tool wear state through the fully connected layer. The experimental results show that the proposed TWM model achieves a prediction accuracy of 99%. It is able to meet the TWM accuracy requirements of real production needs. Moreover, this method also has good interpretability, which can help to understand the critical tool wear factors.
