Sang-Yoon Lee’s division focuses on developing PET diagnostic products and neutron-capturing boron cancer drugs by utilizing short-half-life medical isotopes obtained by cyclotron. More specifically, their division is working on developing PET imaging probes for brain tumors and intractable cancers, which have recently been highlighted by the aging population, and PET probes that can transport boron to cancer cells, where they capture neutron and kill the cancer cells. Radiological drugs are similar in the process of development to general medicine, but they have many differences in the synthetic process and biological evaluation. Thus, these drugs are contributing to the exploration of the pathological mechanisms of many diseases and the development of diagnoses and treatment technologies for them.
