Dr. Tatjana Mitrović studied chemometric methods for obtaining data on river water quality at inactive monitoring stations, where data cannot be acquired through conventional monitoring due to the reduced number of monitoring stations. Her research was focused on the development of a new technology based on gas-phase non-thermal plasma, configured as a plasma needle for the oxidation of textile dyes and pesticides occurring as pollutants in river waters. Her work in this field also included a detailed characterization of the plasma water treatment process from the perspective of degradation products of these pollutants, which may be significantly more toxic than the parent compounds. Modeling of the oxidation process of the aforementioned organic pollutants by non-thermal gas plasma, through the optimization of experimental design, represents another important area of Dr. Tatjana Mitrović’s research.
