Background: Food literacy (FL) plays a crucial role in promoting healthy eating and sustainable food choices. The Short Food Literacy Questionnaire (SFLQ) has been widely used to assess FL in different populations. Objective: This study aimed to adapt and validate the SFLQ in Hungarian (SFLQ-HU) and evaluate its psychometric properties among university students. Methods: The adaptation followed international guidelines, including forward- and back-translation, pre-testing, and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha, while criterion validity was tested through correlations with other health-related scales. For statistical analysis, IBM AMOS 26.0 and SPSS 28.0 software were used. Results: The survey involved 1325 (n = 1325) young adults in 2024. Overall, 76% of the sample were women (n = 1007), and 77.43% of the sample were under 25 years old (n = 1025). The FL level scored 36.47 points (SD: 7.53), with the highest score being 52 and the lowest score being 14.8. The SFLQ-HU demonstrated excellent internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.850) and a good fit for the one-factor structure in CFA. Test–retest reliability confirmed the stability of the instrument. Significant correlations were found between the SFLQ-HU and measures of health literacy (r = 0.197; p < 0.001), food choice motivations (r = 0.394; p < 0.001), and barriers to health behaviors (r = 0.353; p < 0.001). Conclusions: The SFLQ-HU is a reliable and valid tool for assessing food literacy of young Hungarian-speaking adults. It can facilitate future research and public health initiatives aimed at improving FL and promoting healthy dietary habits.

(1) Background: Foodborne diseases continue to affect millions of people around the world today, posing a huge challenge to public health. Our aim was to focus on the food safety knowledge and food hygiene knowledge of students at the University of Pécs, Hungary. (2) Methods: A quantitative, online, cross-sectional study was conducted between 15 February 2024 and 10 May 2024. Non-probability, convenience sampling was used. The target group consisted of first- and second-year BSc level degree students of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Pécs (N = 214). The questions of the self-designed questionnaire include sociodemographic data, questions focusing on food safety knowledge, and questions to assess food hygiene knowledge. Statistical analysis was performed using descriptive and mathematical statistical analysis (p < 0.05). (3) Results: Participants were aware of foods that pose a food safety risk and were familiar with both the pathogens in food and the groups at risk of food contamination. In terms of knowledge, a higher proportion of second-year students answered correctly (p = 0.021; r = 0.657). A significant relationship was found between hygiene habits and age (p = 0.035) and place of residence, with most of the students living in dormitories not paying attention to food hygiene (r = 0.094; p = 0.046). (4) Conclusions: The level of knowledge of the students was not always satisfactory, so further research and education on this topic is essential to promote safe food consumption.

Introduction: This study aimed to ascertain the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in patients from Hungary and Iraq, suffering from acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and investigate the effects of MetS on hospital outcomes, in particular mortality and its relation to differences in patients’ baseline characteristics. Material and methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted in two cardiac centers between May 2018 and May 2019. It included 164 consecutive ACS patients: 64 patients from the Cardiac Clinic in Pécs, Hungary and 100 patients from Al Nassiryah Heart Center, Iraq. Baseline characteristics, clinical management, and in-hospital and 30-day post-discharge outcomes were recorded. Results: Prevalence of metabolic syndrome among ACS patients in Iraq? was not significantly higher than in Hungary (25.0% vs 34.1%; P = 0.306). There were no significant differences in age between those with and without MetS (64.2 vs 63.3 years; P = 0.394). MetS was associated with a higher median BMI (28.0 vs 23.7 kg/m2; P < 0.001), hyperlipidemia (37.8% vs 12.8%; P < 0.001), hypertension (48.8% vs 27.4%; P = 0.024), high cholesterol (5.4 vs 4.1 mmol/L; P < 0.001), high LDL-C (3.5 vs 2.6 mmol/L; P < 0.001), and high triglycerides (1.4 vs 1.1 mmol/L; P < 0.001). MetS was associated with a higher risk of out hospital re-infarction (12.8% vs 3.7%; P = 0.031) and MACE (17.7% and 6.1%; P = 0.027). Conclusions: Current study did not show any significant difference in the incidence of MetS between ACS patients in the two countries. But patients with MetS were significantly more likely to be associated with MACE (P = 0.027). Internationally, few studies have been written on the prevalence of eating disorders among rowers, and there is no research on the subject in Hungary. This is particularly important in weight-related sports such as rowing. The aim of this study is to assess the prevalence of eating disorders among rowers. A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted in the summer of 2023. In a non-random convenience sampling, our target population consisted of certified competitive rowers (n = 222). In addition to socio-demographic, performance-related questions, the anonymous, self-completed questionnaire used the validated The Eating Disorder Inventory (EDI). Results were considered significant when p < 0.05. A total of 57 lightweight (25.67%) and 165 openweight (74.33%) rowers participated in the study. On the perfectionism subscale and the interoceptive awareness subscale, rowers competing in the lightweight category scored significantly higher (p = 0.03; p = 0.05). Scores on the EDI subscales, gender and BMI data did not show significant relationships. Overall, rowers in the openweight group scored higher on the bulimia subscale, but no rowers who met all criteria and could be identified as having eating disorders. Rowers who have only competed in national championships and not in international competitions were more likely to reduce stress levels by eating. The study showed that the prevalence of eating disorders among rowers is no higher than in the general population. However, continued assessment, further extensive research and education of rowers is essential in this area, as weight-related sports will always be a risk group for eating disorders.

Ezzel szemben a gyermekkori egészséges táplálkozásra való szülői törekvés szignifikáns kapcsolatot mutatott a hallgatók élelmiszerműveltségi szintjével és annak több komponensével is (p < 0,05).
