William Chamorro earned a Bachelor’s in Engineering in Automation and Control from Escuela Politécnica Nacional in Quito, Ecuador. Following this, he pursued a Master of Science in Mechatronics at Newcastle University in the UK. His academic journey led to a PhD in Automatics, Robotics, and Computer Vision from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain. During his doctoral studies, his research focused on developing a novel method for localization and mapping using event-based cameras, a project carried out with funding of the Instituto de Robótica e Informática Industrial (IRI). Both his Master’s and PhD were supported by a SENESCYT scholarship. William Chamorro has been actively involved as a collaborator in various research projects at IRI, particularly in the areas of estimation, filtering, and computer vision. Currently, William serves as a full-time academic at Escuela Politécnica Nacional, where he contributes to interdisciplinary projects focused on developing digital twins for UAVs and robotic arms. His areas of expertise include robotics, control systems, SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping), estimation optimization, and ROS programming, among others.
