Willin Álvarez was born in Venezuela on March 22, 1968 in the city of Maracaibo, Zulia state of Venezuela. His full name is Willin Gabriel Álvarez Irausquin. He completed his university studies in Venezuela, graduating first as an Electrical Technicion specializing in Instrumentation and Control. Subsequently, he completed a Bachelor of Education in Mathematics, conducting research in teaching Differential Equations for Engineering using flowcharts as a neuroscience tool to facilitate student learning. Later he obtained a Masters degree in Statistics at the Faculty of Agronomy of the Central University of Venezuela where he investigated Spatial Classification using Fuzzy Logic. It was there that he proposed the SDM Classification Procedure for the classification of new individuals from previously constructed conglomerates. In 2009 he completed his doctoral studies at the Central University of Venezuela with his work titled CONTRIBUTION TO THE ESTIMATION IN MULTIVARIANT REGRESSION WITH REDUCED RANGE USING PARTIAL LEAST SQUARES, in which he proposed the PLSDVS regression and the construction of the regression biplot in the presence of multicollinearity. He has written several international scientific articles and supervised research theses in the areas of statistics and mathematics teaching. Currently, he shares his research in the area of multivariate statistics applied to ecosystems in the Ecuadorian Amazon with the teaching of mathematics with tools of Neuroscience.
