Dr. Yao Hu is the lead Principal Investigator of the Water Intelligence Laboratory at the University of Delaware, holding a split appointment in the Department of Geography and Spatial Sciences and the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering. Dr. Hu is an expert in both physics-based and machine learning models of water systems, specializing in decision-making frameworks (e.g., agent-based modeling) and digital twins for complex environments. By focusing on the development of hybrid modeling tools and cyberinfrastructure, Dr. Hu aims to understand the co-evolution of coupled human and water systems. This innovative approach not only enables the design of early warning systems but also supports evidence-based policy development. Ultimately, Dr. Hu’s work enhances community resilience to water security challenges, particularly in the face of changing environmental conditions. Dr. Hu is a member of the American Geophysical Union (AGU).
