In this paper, we investigate the problem of output feedback control for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems with event-triggered input. The considered system contains not only unknown system parameters, but also general nonlinear functions which are not required to be globally Lipschitz, in contrast to most of the existing results in the area. Besides providing two different event-triggered strategies without input-to-state stable (ISS) assumption with respect to the measurement errors, we propose a new way to encode and decode the event-triggered control signals to further decrease the communication rate. With our newly-proposed encoding-decoding mechanism, each time when the triggering event is violated, only one-bit signal, either 1 or 0, is rendered to transmit through the communication channel between the controller and actuator. Clearly, this signal transmission mechanism is more effective and consumes less channel bandwidth. Through Lyapunov analyses, it is proved that the boundedness of all the signals is ensured and the output signal can be regulated to a compact set around zero which is adjustable.

Electric vehicles are beneficial to the environment owing to its nonproduction of emissions and excessive noise; however, they have their own limitations with respect to charging difficulties and mileage anxiety. In order to address these problems, dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT) technology has been developed. In this article, we replace a conventional open-loop method without dc-dc converter with the proposed dc-dc converter in the energy receiver in order to improve output power. Moreover, to make sure that the DWPT system is reliable when the coupling coefficient changes rapidly over a wide range of values, we propose model predictive control (MPC) to ensure optimal dynamic-tracking performance. Considering the fact that sampling delay will cause an error in the controller output, the system is modeled accurately in order to improve the MPC performance. In addition, the MPC and double closed-loop proportional-integral-differential control are compared with simulations and experiments, the results of which demonstrate the effectiveness of MPC-based DWPT.

In this note, we address the problem of stabilization of port-Hamiltonian systems via the ubiquitous proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller. The design is based on passivity theory, hence the first step is to identify all passive outputs of the system, which is the first contribution of the paper. Adding a PID around this signal ensures that the closed-loop system is L 2 -stable for all positive PID gains. Global stability (and/or global attractivity) of a desired constant equilibrium is also guaranteed for a new class of systems for which a Lyapunov function can be constructed. A second contribution is to prove that this class-that is identified via some easily verifiable integrability conditions-is strictly larger than the ones previously reported in the literature. Comparisons of the proposed PID controller with control-by-interconnection passivity-based control are also discussed.

The dynamic wireless charging for electric vehicles (EVs) is considered an efficient and practical choice to extend the driving range and reduce battery pack size. However, the coupling coefficient between transmitter coils and receiver coil varies rapidly on a large scale during the EVs moving, so it deteriorates the charging performance of dynamic wireless power transfer in EVs, such as the discontinuous charging for the lithium-ion batteries in EVs. Moreover, the charging power and efficiency of the system can also be affected. To solve these issues, a dc–dc converter is added to cascade on the receiver side to improve the output power and efficiency of the system. Furthermore, the passivity-based proportional-integral control is designed for the dc–dc on the receiver side of dynamic wireless charging system to improve the performance against the rapidly changing coupling coefficient. Finally, compared with the conventional proportional-integral-derivative controller, simulation and experimental results are given to show the performance and robustness of dynamic wireless charging system by the proposed method.

In this article, a filter-based control scheme is developed for Euler–Lagrange systems with unknown parameter and external disturbance. Two controllers are proposed under the filtering framework, namely the adaptive controller and the disturbance observer-based controller, respectively. A set of low-pass filters is employed in the control design to derive useful filter outputs, which can provide the design freedom for the parameter estimator or the disturbance observer. For the adaptive controller, a certainty equivalent adaptive law is designed in such way that dominates the cross term between the estimation error and the filtered regression matrix to achieve a better performance compared with classical estimators. For the disturbance observer-based controller, a high-gain disturbance observer is constructed for the lumped uncertainty with an arbitrary order for users to determine. Experimental results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed schemes on a quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in several cases.
