For high control performance of cable-driven manipulators, we design a new adaptive time-delay control (ATDC) using enhanced nonsingular fast terminal sliding mode (NFTSM). The proposed ATDC uses time-delay estimation (TDE) to acquire the lumped dynamics in a simple way and founds a practical model-free structure. Then, a new enhanced NFTSM surface is developed to ensure fast convergence and high control accuracy. To acquire good comprehensive performance under lumped uncertainties, in this article we propose a novel adaptive algorithm for the control gain, which can regulate itself based on the control errors timely and accurately. Benefitting from the TDE and the proposed enhanced NFTSM surface and adaptive control gain, our proposed ATDC is model-free, fast response, and accurate. Theoretical analysis concerning system stability, and control precision and convergence speed are given based on Lyapunov theory. Finally, the advantages of our ATDC over existing methods are verified with comparative experiments.
The main valve spool structure of the pilot-operated proportional directional valve is diverse and has a direct impact on the flow field. To improve the valve’s performance, this work studied the characteristics of four types of spool structures with the following throttling groove arrangements: no throttling groove, a U-shaped groove, a triangle groove, and a combined groove. This study analyzed the flow field simulation of four spool structures under the same opening degree and different pressures to study the flow field cavitation characteristics and pressure distribution in the valve. According to the simulation results, the necessity of opening throttling grooves for the pilot proportional directional valve and the advantages of combined grooves over U-shaped and triangular grooves were verified. Then, the proportional valve with a combined groove structure was simulated and analyzed to study its throttling characteristics, steady flow characteristics, and flow and load differential pressure characteristics, and further explore the advantages of a combined groove. Finally, the experimental results are compared with the simulation results, which can provide a theoretical reference for the selection of the throttle groove of the proportional valve and the structural design of the slide valve.
Heave compensation systems are of great importance to the safety and efficiency of marine operations subject to irregular-wave excitation. While many efforts have been made to improve the displacement compensation control, only a few of researchers pay their attention on tension compensation control. This paper presents an adaptive robust integral sliding mode control (ARISMC) based on the back-stepping method to realize constant tension control of hybrid active-passive heave compensator (HAHC) applied to heavy deep-sea towing systems. The proposed ARISMC is intended to overcome the effects of parametric uncertainties, uncertain nonlinearities, and external disturbances in the electro-hydraulic system of HAHC. The stability of the whole system is proved using common Lyapunov method. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed controller, we carried out a number of simulations and experiments using the measured heave motion data under different sea conditions. The results demonstrate that the ARISMC controller presented in this paper has better advantages than the traditional PI controller in the accuracy and robustness of tension compensation.
With the inception of the Argo program, the global ocean observation network is undergoing continuous advancement, with profiling buoys emerging as pivotal components of this network, thus garnering increased attention in research. In efforts to enhance the efficiency of profiling buoys and curtail energy consumption, a teardrop-shaped buoy design is proposed in this study. Moreover, an optimization methodology leveraging neural networks and genetic algorithms has been devised to attain an optimal profile curve. This curve seeks to minimize drag and drag coefficient while maximizing drainage, thereby improving hydrodynamic performance. Simulation-based validation and analysis are conducted to assess the efficacy of the optimized buoy design. Results indicate that the drag of the teardrop-shaped buoy with a deflector decreased by 9.2% compared to pre-optimized configurations and by 22% compared to buoys lacking deflectors. The hydrodynamic profile devised in this study effectively enhances buoy performance, laying a solid foundation for ocean thermal energy generation and buoyancy regulation control. Additionally, the optimized scheme serves as a valuable blueprint for the design of ocean exploration devices.

In order to improve the stability of the wave power generation device, the mechanism of variable displacement control mechanism of hydraulic motor is proposed and the control strategy of motor speed is built. The detailed mathematical representation and dynamic characteristics of motor control are analyzed; the adaptive sliding mode control method and a back-stepping control strategy are designed for the proposed controller to overcome the influence of the parameter uncertainty in the nonlinear system. The adaptive law is designed by Lyapunov criterion to ensure the stability and convergence of the whole closed-loop system. In order to verify the feasibility of the proposed control strategy, a wave power generation land experimental platform is designed, the experimental platform is mainly consists of the test bench bracket, the hydraulic transmission system and the electric power processing system. Through comparative analysis with PID control method, the advantages of this control method are described and the speed of motor can be controlled accurately.
