Nikos Vasilakis received his BA and MA in Biology from Hofstra University in 1988 and 1992, respectively, and a Ph.D. in Experimental Pathology from the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX in 2007. He finished his Postdoctoral study of Vaccine Development at the University of Pittsburgh in 2009. He is a Professor and Vice Chair for Research at the Department of Pathology, University of Texas Medical Branch. His research interests mainly focus on the basic research on evolution and pathogenesis of arthropod-borne viruses, virus–mosquito and virus–host interactions and vaccine development, the role of viral intra-genic variation in transmission dynamics and emergence, vaccine development, and the discovery and characterization of novel/new viruses.
