The extensive deployment of smart meters in millions of households provides a huge amount of individual electricity consumption data for demand side analysis at a fine granularity. Different from traditional aggregated system-level data, smart meter data is more irregular and unpredictable. As a result, probabilistic load forecasting, which can provide a better understanding of the uncertainty and volatility in future demand, is critical to constructing energy-efficient and reliable smart grids. In this paper, a recently developed technique called Bayesian deep learning is employed to solve this challenging problem. In particular, a novel multitask probabilistic load forecasting framework based on Bayesian deep learning is proposed to quantify the shared uncertainties across distinct customer groups while accounting for their differences. Further, a clustering-based pooling method is designed to increase the data diversity and volume for the framework. This not only addresses the problem of overfitting but also improves the predictive performance. Numerical results are presented which demonstrate that the proposed framework provides superior probabilistic forecasting accuracy over conventional methods.

Industrial applications can produce significant amounts of data that require low delay and high data rate communications. Multiple input multiple output filter bank multicarrier (MIMO-FBMC) communications employing offset quadrature amplitude modulation has been proposed for industrial big data (IBD) due to its reliability and high spectrum efficiency. One of the difficulties in implementing a MIMO-FBMC system is accurate channel estimation (CE). The main factor affecting CE performance is intrinsic imaginary interference, and conventional preamble-based CE is not effective in this case. Thus, in this paper, a low-complexity sparse adaptive CE scheme is proposed which is based on a dynamic threshold. This reduces the number of inner product calculations by considering only the columns of the measurement matrix greater than the threshold. Simulation results are presented which show that the proposed scheme is better than other well-known methods in terms of computational complexity and CE accuracy.

A new cooperative received signal strength-based localization algorithm is proposed which employs relative error estimation and semidefinite programming (SDP). First, the log-normal shadowing RSS measurement model is transformed into an equivalent multiplicative model. Then, a relative error estimation criterion is used with this model to develop a nonconvex estimator to approximate the maximum likelihood solution. Finally, semidefinite relaxation is applied to the nonconvex estimator to obtain an SDP estimator. The proposed algorithm is first derived for noncooperative RSS-based localization and then extended to the cooperative case. The Cramer-Rao lower bound is derived for cooperative RSS-based localization. Performance results are presented, which demonstrate that the proposed SDP estimator provides a significant improvement over existing localization methods.

Gaussian/non-Gaussian impulsive noises in underwater acoustic (UWA) channel seriously impact the quality of underwater acoustic communication. The common denoising algorithms are based on Gaussian noise model and are difficult to apply to the coexistence of Gaussian/non-Gaussian impulsive noises. Therefore, a new UWA noise model is described in this paper by combining the symmetric α-stable (SαS) distribution and normal distribution. Furthermore, a novel underwater acoustic signal denoising algorithm called AWMF+GDES is proposed. First, the non-Gaussian impulsive noise is adaptively suppressed by the adaptive window median filter (AWMF). Second, an enhanced wavelet threshold optimization algorithm with a new threshold function is proposed to suppress the Gaussian noise. The optimal threshold parameters are obtained based on good point set and dynamic elite group guidance combined simulated annealing selection artificial bee colony (GDES-ABC) algorithm. The numerical simulations demonstrate that the convergence speed and the convergence precision of the proposed GDES-ABC algorithm can be increased by 25%~66% and 21%~73%, respectively, compared with the existing algorithms. Finally, the experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed underwater acoustic signal denoising algorithm and demonstrate that both the proposed wavelet threshold optimization method based on GDES-ABC and the AWMF+GDES algorithm can obtain higher output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), noise suppression ratio (NSR), and smaller root mean square error (RMSE) compared with the other algorithms.
