The aim of our paper is to examine whether the support of innovative work behavior by management is positively related to business performance and at the same time, whether this relationship is mediated by the teamwork climate and cognitive diversity of teams. Cognitive diversity is defined as differences in knowledge and perspective, which arise from professional diversity and account for its positive effects. A teamwork climate represents staff perceptions of collaboration between personnel. Business performance is defined by the level of sales. Our sample consisted of 211 managers of companies operating in Slovakia, and data collection took place in the form of a questionnaire. The main tool for examining the mechanism of operation of the investigated relationships is mediation using regression analysis and the Sobel test to determine the significance of the indirect effect of mediation variables. The findings point to a significant direct relationship between the innovative work behavior of company employees and business performance. The intensity of this relationship can be partly influenced by promoting cognitive diversity, especially in the area of knowledge and ways of thinking. The significant role of a teamwork climate was not demonstrated in the examined model.

Representatives of municipalities and their management are invited to develop new managerial skills in order to implement modern approaches to management. Diversity management means using the diverse potential of employees to meet the innovation and development goals of the offices. The aim of our research is to examine the context of beliefs, values, and rules of diverse organizational culture (DOC) and innovative work behavior (IWB) through the mediation effect of teamwork climate, transmitting and moderating this direct effect in the environment of Slovak municipalities. A mediation model was applied using the Sobel test for the mediation effect. A series of regression analyses were used to identify the proposed hypotheses. The mediation effect was correctly estimated. The direct effect of the beliefs, values, and rules of DOC has enhanced IWB. However, a certain part of them that leads through teamwork climate slightly dampens IWB.

The job satisfaction of nurses is reflected in almost all organizational outputs of medical facilities. First-line nurse managers (FLNMs), who are directly related to subordinate nurses, have a great influence on this satisfaction. The aim of our paper is to examine the connection between communication skills and the transformation style of FLNMs management with the job satisfaction of nurses and to verify the influence of three moderators on the strength of this relationship. The chosen moderators—the practice of managing FLNMs, the degree of control (span of control) and psychosocial work—follow from theoretical studies. The moderating effect of the variable management practice is also significant from the point of view of Slovak legislation. The sample consisted of 132 FLNMs from five university hospitals in Slovakia. Data collection took place in the form of a questionnaire. All data were processed using the SPSS 24 software package. A series of regression analyzes were used to identify the proposed hypotheses. ANOVA analysis was used to analyze multiple dependencies. We worked at a 5% level of significance. The findings point to the strong direct effects of communication skills and the transformational leadership style of FLNMs on nurses’ job satisfaction. Moderation effects are mild, but significant in the case of management and span of control practices. The lower values of both variables reinforce the positive relationships among the two predictors and the job satisfaction of nurses. The third moderator, psychosocial work factors, also have a significant moderating effect, which is negative, and the higher value of this moderator mitigates both positive direct effects.

The level of leadership skills of healthcare team leaders has long been the subject of interest and many discussions. Several studies have pointed to their inadequacy, which is becoming a serious problem during the global crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic. There is a direct link between the leadership in the healthcare system and its performance, conditioned by the level of decisions of leaders of medical teams. It is they who determine the performance of healthcare delivery. The study published in this article contains the results from the examination of the dependence between crisis leadership and team performance in healthcare providers. The subject of the research is the impact of cognitive diversity and the quality of crisis-leadership decision-making on the performance of medical teams in the acute crisis phase. The study was conducted on a research sample of 216 healthcare providers after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Slovakia (April 2020). The respondents to the research sample involved team leaders in healthcare providers, who have been involved in managing the crisis. The study has justified the positive association between crisis leadership and team performance, which is mediated by cognitive diversity, supporting the quality of decision-making in crisis leadership. The results of the research have proven that the performance of the medical team in the acute crisis phase can be positively influenced through qualified decision-making in crisis leadership amplified by the usage of cognitive diversity.

The main objective and purpose of our paper is to verify the positive congruence between the synergistic effect of the mixed roles of human resources management departments in healthcare facilities and their organizational performance. Such congruence is mediated by means of a transformational leadership style and information sharing. The research was carried out on a sample of 44 hospitals in the Slovak Republic, which are included in the ranking according to a comprehensive indicator of their performance (medical and non-medical). Data were obtained using a questionnaire for 44 top managers from these hospitals. Mediation was used as a tool to examine the relevant variables relationship mechanism. All data was analyzed using the SPSS 24.0 software package with the help of selected analytical tools. A series of regression analysis were used to identify the proposed hypotheses. ANOVA was used to analyze the multiple dependence. We worked at a significance level of 5%. The main conclusion of our study is the significant impact of the implementation of the new—mixed role of human resources management departments on organizational performance. Another finding is that the direct effect between the two variables examined is more significant than the mediated effect. This means that if management unambiguously declares and implements the policy of mixed roles of human resources management departments, less influence from the mediator—transformational leadership is sufficient to transmit the effect of this variable onto organizational performance. Completed specialization studies in the field of management play a significant role in the studied relationships.

Purpose: The fast and shocking onset of the crisis caused by the COVID-19 virus created the need for a complete crisis management of healthcare facilities to manage the current stage of the crisis. The purpose of our research is to examine the relations between the competences of crisis management in healthcare facilities and the performance of employees, measured during the acute stage of the crisis by their feeling of satisfaction, safety and creation of conditions for work, whereby we assume that these variables are mutually interlinked by the sharing of information, teamwork and cognitive diversity of the work teams. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire survey was created and used based on a sample of 216 mid-level managers of health care facilities in Slovakia, which took place during the first month after the outbreak of the crisis (during the month of March/April 2020). The Baron and Kenny mediator model has been used for research purposes and the Freedman–Schatzkin test has been used to test the mediator effect. Regression analysis has been used to verify the hypotheses. The control variables were the size of the healthcare facility based on the number of employees, gender and age of the manager, his position in the management hierarchy and the duration of practice in a management position. The ANOVA analysis of variance was used to analyze multiple dependencies. The level of significance was 5%. The research sample consisted of 216 managers at different types of healthcare facilities. Results: The hypothesis for the dependency between the crisis competences of management and performance of teams during the acute stage of the crisis, facilitated by sharing information, teamwork and cognitive diversity of crisis management was confirmed. It is a multilateral incomplete mediation, where almost two thirds of the total effect are facilitated by mediators, of which the sharing of information has the greatest effect (35%). Conclusion: Based on our mediation model, healthcare facilities, which strive to implement crisis management during the acute stage of the crisis, should place emphasis especially on reliable background information and the fast sharing of information, supporting the performance of healthcare teams. The strategies for achieving these goals should also include education focused on the development of managerial competences.

The acute phase of the COVID-19 crisis exacerbated the need for managerial skills of agricultural managers, provoked another wave of discussion on content of managerial competencies in times of crisis, and revealed a significant research gap. The main goal of our study is to identify the impact of competencies of agricultural crisis managers on the performance of employees in the acute phase of the crisis, when the performance was influenced by their subjective perception and evaluation of their working conditions, satisfaction and safety. We used statistical mediation to examine the connections and deeper relationships between several variables. The hypothesis of dependence between competencies of crisis management and performance of employees, mediated by information sharing, teamwork and cognitive diversity, has been confirmed. Partial mediation has been identified, when only part of the effect is mediated by the mediator variables, however the substantial one. The remaining, smaller part is transmitted directly. Employees’ performance in an acute crisis phase can be influenced by competent crisis management and enhance its effect through information sharing and teamwork support. The cognitive diversity of crisis management did not prove significant in our study. The emphasis is on consistency and the resulting sense of security and safety.

During historical development a greater number of decision theories were gradually conceived. Their differences arise from the normative and descriptive characters of individual theories. They differ in basic assumptions such as rationality, available information or choice of a decision. In practical life, they are manifested by accentuation of rational, or even intuitive decision making. This article is devoted to the definition of both types of theories and subsequent examination of the level of rationality in strategic decision making of managers. The findings have shown, that managers use more rational approach than intuitive approach. The most important factors that influence the level of rationality in strategic decision making were external factors. The most important of them has been assigned to a group of competition factors. Other factors influencing the level of rationality in strategic decision-making have been identified, namely the factors of the decision itself and factors of the internal environment. Managers combine rationality with strategic decision-making activities to take advantage of opportunity of an environment. The emphasis in the degree of impact on rationality in strategic decision-making is significant in favor of using the factors of the decision itself. The dependence of the perception of factors of the decision itself was significant in the variable economy.

Since revenue streams provide financial stability for business development, companies are tasked with conducting an individual revenue model, that ensures their healthy and sustainable growth. Therefore, it is important to take into account the manner of creating revenues. This initiative relates to the revenue generation mechanism which describes how revenue is generated from the offer. Our research aims to find out whether the number of revenue streams (scope of the revenue model) and other financial and production indicators can predict the amount of revenue, as well as which factors can predict the scope of the revenue model. Concurrently we have focused on analyzing the sources of revenue streams and have selected key business variables in the wine producing industry. This sector had been selected as there is a significant difference between revenue streams based on manufacturing and those based on tourism activities. This concept was created by using theoretical knowledge about the value, pricing and segmentation. The goal of our research article was to design the General Concept of the Revenue Model and to identify variables with a strong influence on it. Results of the multiple linear regression analysis confirmed the significant influence of particular predictors on the scope of the revenue model, whereby the model explains up to 80% of the variance.

Organizations providing health services are often criticized because of inadequate and unsuitable management processes or procedures. Today’s challenge is focused on effective management and leadership skills in the area of health care. The aim of the research is to describe, analyze, and evaluate the current state of diversity management in details in the context of human resources management in the selected healthcare facilities. The source of the information was a questionnaire survey. The sample consists of 181 managers from various health care and health service organizations. The method of analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for data processing. The results were processed in SPSS and Excel programs. Pearson’s coefficient was used to evaluate the cross-correlation of the variables. The level of significance was 5% on both sides. Basic awareness of diversity management in the healthcare facilities is low. Some tools of diversity management are used, but only in isolation, non-conceptually, and unsystematically. The acknowledgment of diversity concept is poor and chaotic. The basic models of this concept defining its goals, activities, programs, responsibilities, and measurements are not known. One of the strong areas of the diversity management in the healthcare facilities is the diversity of working teams. On other hand, the weak side is the diversity as part of the organization culture and diversity as a part of human resource management. The summarizing index Attitudes towards Diversity received a higher average value than the Diversity Management Implementation index. Significant variables influencing the level of aggregate indices were identified: Ownership, size of the organization in terms of number of employees, patients’ satisfaction, and employees’ satisfaction.

The European Union (European Parliament) understands industry 4.0 as a term for an environment of fast transformations of production systems and products. The basic characteristic of the change in the methods of creating added value in the conditions of the fourth industrial revolution is digitalization. Digitalization changes people management in two stages. The first stage is the adaptation of systems to the integration of physical inputs into digital systems, and the second stage is the redefinition of values for the internal and external customer. The purpose of this paper is to examine the content of the first digitalization stage and its impact on the transformation of values of corporate people management in the second stage of digitalization. The study published in this paper points out the level of digitalization applied towards the internal and external customer. The research results verify relations in the portfolio of corporate value and prove their present implementation of digitalization and its and importance for the future sustainability of the business. The study confirmed the independence of the levels of corporate digitalization and companies’ value portfolios. Furthermore, the study proved the universal nature of corporate value orientation, irrespective of the size, business focus or performance of the people management system. Meaningfulness, communication and cooperation dominate in terms of importance for business sustainability. The results of the study in Slovakia support the opinions of published foreign research, which emphasize the importance of introducing technological innovations aimed at employees to a much greater extent.

Nowadays, wine tourism belongs to the key business activities of a winery. It represents a diversification tool of a typical production company. The research paper aims to explore the relationship between wine tourism and business model parameters according to financial and production performance of a winery. The results of the parametric Independent sample t -test reveal that there is no difference in revenue, profit or gross margin between two groups of wineries with or without wine tourism activities. But the analysis gave proof about the difference in a number of revenue streams, key, and additional business activities. The effect size r for t- test was also calculated. Measuring the association between key performance indicators and wine tourism activities reveals the dependency with the number of revenue streams of a winery. Additional business activities are the most relevant parameter to perform better results in wine tourism. wine tourism; revenue model; revenue streams; winery's revenue; business model
