The potential of female heads of households is very important to be developed, but unfortunately they have not been able to fully participate because they still have limited power and a weak position in society. To empower them, an empowerment program for female heads of households is carried out. This research describes efforts conducted by members of the program to overcome hindrances faced in their position as female heads of household, particularly within their roles in both domestic and public spaces. This study uses a case study approach in which data were collected using in-depth interviews to eight informants including PEKKA members, officers, and corresponding household members. Participatory observations are conducted in three months, looking into PEKKA-related activities and the informants daily practices. The findings from this study reveal that through close and dialogic communication processes between the female heads of household and PEKKA officers, they can openly share their problems and receive support to solve their problems. Interpersonal communication helps the female heads of household in gaining trust and becoming role models for their families. This form of communication also enables wives to gain their husbands’ trust and render them equal partners. It is concluded that through the processes of interpersonal communication, female heads of household can position themselves as subjects that challenge the impeding patriarchal values. Interpersonal communication in the PEKKA program, both as practice and shared knowledge, is considered effective as a means to empower female heads of household. Keywords: Interpersonal communication process, female heads of household, social roles, empowerment program, PEKKA programme.
One of the criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of library management is the preservation of library materials. Based on these problems, it is interesting to do research on Trisakti University library efforts in preserving library materials. A qualitative descriptive approach is used in conducting research on efforts to preserve library materials at the Trisaksi University Library. The findings show that the Trisakti University Library has implemented environmental control and kept the environment clean in the library. As for curative measures, the library only manually rebinds collections that have been damaged. The Trisakti University Library does not have a written policy that regulates preservation activities so that the implementation becomes unstructured. Thus, efforts to preserve library materials at the Trisakti University Library are considered to have not run optimally.
This research aims to develop the library collection according to the needs of the community to empower the community in information management. This research uses the Participatory Action Research method, which involves four research stages to identify the information needs of the village community. The stages are 1) Planning, 2) Action, 3) Observation, 4) Reflection. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature review. The research results show that at the planning stage, the people of Kadujaya village want an information centre in the form of a village library. Based on the discussion results, the researchers conducted an information mapping to determine the types of collections needed. The action stage was then carried out by procuring library collections through purchases and submitting proposals to relevant institutions, such as the National Library, BRIN, Taman Baca Arcamanik, and individuals. At the observation and reflection stage, the researchers found that the collection of the Kadujaya village library needs further development to ensure the diversity of information accessible to the community. The results of this study indicate that the development of the village library collection must be adjusted to the dynamics and evolving information needs of the community.
